Protecting Our Most Precious Assets
If anyone needs to protect the environment, it's a farmer. We need clean air and clean water so we can continue to produce the safest, healthiest food supply in the world.
That's why Stanislaus Farm Supply has invested in solutions that show our commitment to the environment. Our Modesto facility is a prime example. When we started, we had five acres and were located in a predominately rural area. Today we have nearly 40 acres, and the city has grown out to meet us. To be a good neighbor, we've focused on installing state-of-the art technologies, including:
- Special tank farms with the latest in containment equipment for our liquid fertilizers. The tanks incorporate seismic engineering so if there's a rupture, the material can be contained.
- A lined containment pond. The pond also catches all our rainwater runoff, which we recycle at our research farm to irrigate the corn, alfalfa, and grain plots.
- A fully contained warehouse to store our crop care products. The building includes a fire-fighting foam system to extinguish fires if any of the flammable products would ignite.
Landscaping speaks volumes
Many area residents may not know we've taken all these precautions. When people hear the name Stanislaus Farm Supply, many people simply comment, "Oh, you guys are the ones with the beautiful lawn."
At Farm Supply, we're always saying things about ourselves, even when we don't utter a word. That's why we take pride in our landscaping. If the exterior looks good, it makes a statement about the interior, and it makes a statement about the people who work here, setting the tone that we intend to "exceed our customers' expectations".
We've devoted nearly an acre to sweeping lawns, groves of trees (including conifers, redwoods, maples, and aspens), and attractive signage. This park-like setting has become a popular destination for local neighbors taking their dogs on a walk.
Taking a holistic approach in the field
Our urban facilities aren't the only places where protecting the environment remains a priority. In the field, our pest control advisors and certified crop advisors take the wide-angle view of stewardship. You won't find any "spray and pray" practices here, since our professionals consider the health of the biosphere when they make recommendations to help our farmers maximize their yields.
Others take notice
Our commitment to the environment has attracted attention beyond the local community. We've won the DuPont Crop Protection Environmental Respect Award, the ag industry's highest recognition for environmental stewardship among U.S. ag retailers.
We regularly offer tours to local high schools, colleges, and chambers of commerce, as well as U.S. and foreign visitors.
Agriculture is a vital industry, and protecting the environment makes a difference to all of us, whether we're a farmer or a consumer.
